In computer science, a web hosting service is defined as the allocation of the pages of a website or web application on a web server. This allows the site or application to be reachable and visible to users on the network. These services are provided by hosts or hosting providers.
A web host or web hosting provider is the go-between that provides professionals, businesses and individuals with the technology needed to make their sites and web pages visible on the internet. Web hosting providers require a higher and more stable level of connectivity than home users to ensure proper service delivery and prefer to house data in data centers (external or owned).
A “web server”, defined as a “host”, is connected to the Internet in such a way as to guarantee access to the pages of the site by means of the web browser of the user’s host client, with identification of the contents by means of domain and IP address.
The provision of Internet connection services, hosting, housing, and related services, is today a very specific economic sector, included within the ICT, in which many national realities operate, but also large transnational companies.
