Performing arts

Performing arts are art forms in which the work consists of the performance of a specific set of actions by the artist in front of an audience. Artistic expression is conveyed primarily by the use of the artist’s body – unlike other art forms, in which the work consists of or is mediated primarily by out-of-body objects.

The main forms of performing arts are dance, music, and theater; secondary forms are illusionism, mime, puppet theater, and circus art.

Artists who perform performing arts in front of an audience are called performers, depending on the type of art are dancers, musicians, magicians, singers. The conception of performances is often done by people other than the performers and follows its own principles such as musical composition or dramaturgy for theater.
